A 10% baseline tariff on all imported goods went into effect on April 5, three days after President Trump\u2019s \u201cLiberation Day\u201d announcement. He also planned additional, reciprocal tariffs on 90 nations<\/a>. These were supposed to begin on April 9, but Trump has recently promised to postpone them for 90 days<\/a>. No one is sure what else (if anything) will change in the meantime.<\/p>\n

The exact tariffs vary by country. For example, in the next three months, we\u2019ll see a 32% tariff on Taiwanese goods. Meanwhile, the White House just announced a 125% tariff on Chinese goods,<\/a> effective immediately.<\/p>\n

Probably not. Tariffs are taxes on imports<\/a>, or physical goods. Services, like consulting, freelancing, and the outsourcing of knowledge work, don\u2019t count. SAAS and digital products are also usually exempt, because they don\u2019t have a physical component.<\/p>\n

All this means that tariffs will not have a direct impact on IT consulting. However, there will still be an indirect impact.<\/p>\n
